After chatting with Morgen, here's the latest on keeping collections in sync between Hub and Desktop

1. Morgen has added a dialog where users can select which collections they want to sync from their sharing accounts. For now, this list does *not* include subscriptions. See comment 14 on bug 10971 below.

2. Adding subscriptions to the list of collections you can sync is logged as bug 10983 (see below) and can be phased in 2 stages:
+ Sync subscriptions from sharing accounts down to desktop client
+ Sync subscriptions from desktop client up to sharing accounts

3. There will be a a new 'Sync Manager' menu item where this functionality can be accessed. See bug 11334 below. The 'Sync Manager' will eventually include things like 'Set Auto-Sync' For now, it will only support #1 above.

4. When deleting published collections from your sidebar, you can now choose whether you want to leave the collection on the server or not. I tweaked the language in the dialog. See bug 11333 below.

5. I logged a new bug 11331 to keep track of some half-baked ideas for expanding the Sync Manager dialog.

--- Comment #14 from Mimi Yin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 2007-11-12 12:25:40 PST --- After chatting with Morgen, here is a mock-up of the auto-restore dialog:

===
Sync Manager
-----

You have collections in your sharing account(s) that are not synced.
Which of them would you like to sync?

[  ] All collections in <ACCOUNT NAME>
   [  ] Collection 1
   [  ] Collection 2
   etc...

[  ] All collections in <ACCOUNT NAME>
   [  ] Collection 1
   [  ] Collection 2
   etc...

-----
Note: This list does not include subscriptions.

[Don't Sync] [Sync Later] [Sync Now]

===

+ If user selects Sync Later, this dialog pops up again the next time auto-sync
goes off.
+ Sync Manager should be added to the File menu underneath 'Suspend Syncing'
(syncing should be capitalized)

+ Morgen is going to look into how to define margins in dialogs:
- 15 pixels all-around)
- top margin that matches the left-hand margin in the list boxes

+ And text-wrapping in the dialogs.

This feature can be phased thusly:

1. Sync subscriptions from sharing accounts. (Doesn't require many changes to
the Manage Syncing dialog that is proposed in bug 10971.

2. Sync subscriptions from Desktop to sharing accounts. This requires
redesigning the Manage Syncing dialog.

+ Add 'Sync Manager...' to the File menu underneath 'Suspend Syncing'
+ Capitalize 'Syncing' in 'Suspend syncing'

When users delete published collections from the sidebar, we should say:

===
Delete Collection
-----
Remove from sharing account?

Do you also want to remove this collection from <SHARING ACCOUNT NAME>?

[Cancel]                       [Remove] [Don't Remove]

===

Also need a Cancel option.

In addition to bug 10983 and bug 10971, here are some additional things for the
Manage Syncing dialog:

+ Incorporate 'Set Auto-Sync' into the Manage Syncing dialog

STILL NEED TO BE WORKED OUT...(NOT SURE ABOUT THESE)
+ Keep synced collections on the list. Add ability to Unpublish. (We will want
to throw up a confirmation dialog warning users that
+ Add a list 'local collections' as well so that users can publish multiple
collections at once.
