Comment: Gnome (and many other services as well) requires the local loopback interface to be up. For some reason, ifup is not able to bring the interface up. The error message indicates that your /etc/network/interfaces contains the line 'auto eth0' twice. to bring up your lo interface manually, use 'sudo /sbin/ifconfig lo up' -- desktop-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
