Comment: We may be able to get the best of both worlds here. This is a strange and evil idea but bare with me here. What if Abiword were to encode the things that it cannot properly represent about its internal state as metadata in the OpenDocument file. In the case of exchanging documents with other OpenDocument word processors the interoperability remains the same. In the case of the user using Abiword as their only word processor they get the lossless properties that .abw would give them. Of course this is evil because it can be seen as a proprietary extension to an open format.
