Binary package hint: totem
This is a predictable malfunction which affects VLC & Totem Movie
Player.
To recreate the malfunction ... Enable Desktop effect, then play any
video media and the view port goes black, if you shake the window it
returns briefly but the symptom continues if again you move the window
or play a new video clip.
If, during playback you deactivate the desktop effects, video output is
immediately restored.
I have an ATI Radeon 9600 AGP video card. (would be happy to give you the
entire machine spec if yo need it) - oh Ubuntu 7 beta
