Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools
the problem is with shares-admin program in the gnome-system-tools
A newbie user trying to share a folder with samba will end up with a not
accessible share, cause when trying to access it will receive a request
for user/password, and the user/password doesn't exist (the Linux
user/password isn't accepted)
step to reproduce:
0) fresh install Ubuntu Feisty Fawn
1) Set up the LAN network if needed
2) Administrator -> Shares Folder
3) Accept to install SMB (Samba) and NFS
4) add a new SMB share
5) Try to access it from a network computer, it will ask for user name and
password, and linux user/password will NOT work
manual solution:
1) sudo smbpasswd -a username
2) put the password for the new samba username
3) sudo /etc/init.d/samba restart
this should be automatically done by shares-admin, or at least should be
a button to "manage users"
this simply isn't user friendly at all
