Hi there
Does the same happens with other than Desktop and your home directory?, i guess
this is the desirable behaviour with those two shortcuts, since in the desktop
case there isn't much point in having a link pointing to itself, and the home
directory has a gconf key to enable/disable the visibility in the desktop area.
Can you please attach the alert message you get.
