Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: rhythmbox
I copied tracks from Adiemus II: Cantata Mundi. About half of those have
names containing a colon. These tracks worked fine inside Rhythmbox but
could not be transferred to the iPod. When I tried to drag and drop the
entire album to my iPod, Rhythmbox reported a write error for these
files. The files without a colon in the name were transferred without
problems.
My iPod has a Windows-type file system (VFAT.) My impression is that the
problem is that VFAT does not allow file names with colons in them.
WORKAROUND: Rename all MP3 files (the files, not the MP3 track name
data) so that they do not contain a colon in the name, re-import them to
Rhythmbox and then transfer the files.
