1. Install fresh gutsy 2. Download BlueSwirl greeter theme from http://art.gnome.org/themes/gdm_greeter/1201 3. Open welcome screen settings, drag & drop tar.bz2 with theme to install it, it becames selected as default theme 4. Reboot the computer 5. GDM has ugly, default (not ubuntu default) theme Opening greeter settings and selecting theme once more solves the problem.
