Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36670

Description changed to:
I use applications that draw themselves on the X root window, so i
disable the "draw_background" key for gnome with gconf-editor.
However, gnome *still continues to draw the background* and hides
the window of the application drawing to the root of the screen.
When disabling the draw_background, gnome must not draw anything
(image or bgcolor) on the root window. I believe this worked
correctly with standard gnome from gnome.org when i used it (at
least for a previous version) so i think it is an ubuntu bug.

version: gnome 2.12.1 ubuntu breezy + official dapper backports
