I can confirm a portion of this bug.
I set the screen saver to 10 mins
I logoff System->Quit->logoff
Let the login display sit 10 mins screensaver starts (actually blank
screen)
I wait a minute or so
i press any key
login screen displays
enter username
enter passwd
login is successful
gdm colors the screen gold and gnome desktop does not display
I have to get to a virtual console window and shutdown -r now
and on reboot things are fine.
This is a similar situation to bug 157622 which is gdm related
I am changing the package name to gdm
