I can comment, that when I had this problem, it was out of the blue. I do have a static IP (as mentione above), but I had had it for a long time when I had this problem. I am pretty sure it is related to gnome- applets because my solution was to purge and then reinstall that package. I don't think it is related to samba or multiple logins because I don't have any of that going on on my personal laptop...
