Version 2.21.5 is available in Hardy (the development version of Ubuntu, which will be released in April). To get it into Gutsy this would need a Stable Release Update, but I don't think it qualifies for it (as it is no security vulnerability, crash nor important regression from previous releases).
If you are really interested in using this new version I guess your best option would be to request a backport.
