On Ubuntu Hardy Alpha 3 with all updates to date (2008-01-23) on a Dell
Inspiron 1520 laptop, as of today (this didn't happen until today; did
not happen yesterday or last week) drives mounted under /mnt are
appearing as icons on the desktop.
Only drives under /media should appear on the desktop.
For example, /mnt/sda3 appears as an icon on the desktop. I specifically
moved this from /media to /mnt in my fstab so that it would not appear
on the desktop. My wife, who also uses this laptop, finds this new
behavior very confusing.
