Partially fixed, as I understand it. The images issue I mention in my comment above has been solved, however, the other issue of tiled rendering has been postponed for GNOME 2.24. Both issues are fairly serious, so this is good progress, but there are still PDFs on which Evince is not usable on medium- to low-memory machines.
