Same bug happened on current Hardy for me. A few days after installing Hardy alpha 4, the mysterious CD-ROM 1 appeared on the disk mount applet. Although I have a DVDRW device, which works perfectly and has a distinct icon.
I found out, that this icon is for scd0, that is (out of some reason) listed in fstab. My actual optical device is hda. Removing the corresponding entry from fstab fixed the problem.
