Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel
Windows uses the system tray to hide applications you want to get out of your way, but don't want to close. That's fine, I like that feature. However, in Ubuntu and GNOME, we don't really have a tray. We have the notification area, which very much resembles the system tray in Windows, but it should be used when updates are available, a reboot is required, marsian attacks, etc. It would be nice if we could have one for both features. I for one, love Alltray. Being able to hide firefox or evolution is nice, but I should be able to move those icons away from the notification area, making the notifications more visible. How about a fork of Notification Area to be used for exactly that? What Windows calls "minimize to tray", we'll call "Micromizing", and micromized applications are called "Micro icons", or "Microns". This could be really nice when combined with an application like Alltray, which could be renamed to "Micromizer". ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Separate "tray" from Notification Area (micromize) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/194322 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
