I assume that you are referring to the title bar in the evince window.
It does take up the entire screen width.  I'm not sure if any window
manager can have multiple lines in the title bar.  Autoscrolling would
be neat, but again, I don't know of any window manager that can handle
that.  That really sounds like a KDE4 feature.

In XFCE4, zenity is used to show the entire metadata title bar in the
panel pop-up.  It takes up 3 lines of text.
