Anytime your change directories in the Gnome file chooser, the filename
is lost. For instance, if you choose Save As... in firefox it will
bring up the File Chooser with a default filename provided by Firefox
from the name specified within the HTML. If you don't like the
directory and select a different one, then the filename box is cleared
in the dialog.
This is just an annoyance. I have learned to highlight the filename and
place it in the cut buffer prior to changing directories. Then, once I
have navigated to the directory of choice, I paste in the filename.
