Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I am using Ubuntu Hardy Alpha 4 dist-upgraded up to date as of ~17:30
today (14/3/08) on a Dell M1330 (had gutsy pre-installed). I have compiz
running (intel X3100 graphics), with the "normal" amount of eye-candy.
The version of gnome-panel as reported by apt-cache policy is
1:2.22.0-0ubuntu1.

I have repeated this two times and got two slightly different results:

1) Add the "Window List" applet to the top panel. Removing it from the bottom
panel (or removing the whole bottom panel) does not seem to change the outcome
of the following.
2) Open a few programs. Keep their windows visible for later.
3) Open the panel properties config.
4) Click/unclick the "expand"/"autohide"/"show hide buttons" checkboxes a few
times quickly. You don't have to do it too much, or too quickly, but I think
more and faster helps to reproduce the bug.
5) Switch to the "Background" tab of the config and drag the "Style" slider
around.

The results I get are:

- The panel did not change transparency at all during step 5.
- Closing the Panel Properties window does not remove its entry from the window
list.
- Clicking any of the entries in the panel list does nothing (other things
still work).
- Close some programs and reopen them - their entry in the window list never
disappears, but you can now use it again to mini/maximise. The entry in the
window list does not update though (e.g. go to a different site in firefox, the
window list will not reflect that).
- In one test all the applets in the panel rearranged themselves and pushed up
against the right. I couldn't tell that visibly until I rebooted, but clicking
various places in the panel was consistent with the layout I later saw.
However, all the icons were locked to the panel, both before and after...

This is possibly related to bug #202256, where changing panel settings
(not quickly) caused the newly added Tomboy applet to crash on me. I
found this problem while trying to reproduce that one.
