I have the problem when i switched from nvidia-glx to nvidia-glx-new drivers.... It switched my package installation automatically when i want to activate the 2D/3D acceleration in order to get the desktop visual effects. When it reboots, I have first the gnome-preferences saying that it relaunch too many time! Video configuration: nvidia driver, high resolution, GeForce6600GT graphic chip card.
