Although I agree that this is cosmetic, it's a pretty visible bug even if it's easy to work around it, that why I asked about a resolution.
Because you mentioned that the upstream developers are having a hard time keeping the bug count low, I'll try to eventually have a go at fixing this myself and post a patch to it (if I don't switch MUA's in the mean time because I'm also having a hard time with Evolution as a user :-) ).
