Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: nautilus
Upgraded from gutsy to hardy. Under gnome session, without compiz, and with or
without metacity compositing.
I'm unable to change the desktop background with system>preferences>apparences.
I can select a wallpaper, but it is not applied in the background til
logout/login in a following gnome session.
So, to be able to change the desktop background, i must reset the X session
(ctrl+alt+backspace)
(it seems we are many in this case (ubuntuforums and ubuntu-fr/forums))
