Maybe you didn't understand my request... I know that in windows xp I can select from my ATI control panel, the "theater" video mode. When selecting this mode the only things that are shown in the secondary monitor are videos, so it is always black unless a video file is played. So if windows knows when a movie is played, I'm pretty sure that linux can know it too!
