Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: rhythmbox
Playing music worked fine yesterday, via Rhythmbox and the file system
preview feature. I noticed the issue after a two hour break from using
my computer (it was left on, and the system went into sleep mode). When
I opened Rhythmbox to play a file, it appeared as though the file would
play (the play button was depressed), but the time bar never moved. It's
not that I can't hear anything, it's that the program is not playing
anything. Totem and the file system preview feature also will not play
music files. Watching/listening to streaming content online does produce
sound, however.
1). I am using Ubuntu 8.04.
2). Rhythmbox version 0.11.5-0ubuntu6 (hardy), Totem 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 (hardy)
3). I expected music files to play
4). The various programs available to play music files, failed to play them
