Sebastien - using the "gst-launch-0.10 playbin" command from terminal results in the video I provided above playing perfectly.
Attempting to run it through Totem (either starting totem first, or just double-clicking in Nautilus) results in the unwatchably slow preformance again, UNLESS I've already tried the gst-launch-0.10 command first - then it works. I just restarted this machine to test that, too - running the command line first means working vid. Trying the non-command line lauch first mean unwatchable video.
