This is not how my desktop was working whilst using 7.04. Not really a problem 
then, just liked the old way better.

My mistake, was unaware of [Ctrl] + B command.

... in addition, initiating a file transfer to a connected server has
been crashing nautilus. for example, a firefox page may be minimized but
there is no way to unminimize firefox or any other program running on
the toolbars. the [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Backspace] command logs out the user but
does not seem to solve the nautilus crash as the toolbars do not
reappear after logging in again. the only fix is to reboot from the
login splash.
