Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu 8.04 i386 desktop CD fresh installation

Steps:
 - boot installed system from harddrive
 - login
 - click Places / Connect to Server...
 - select "Service type" "Windows share"
 - enter Server: 10.1.2.3 (a valid servers address)
 - enter Share: share1 (valid share name on that server)
 - enter User Name : xerces8 (valid username ...)
 - enter Domain Name: FOO (valid domain name for the user name)
 - click "Connect"
 - in the password dialog enter correct password
 - click "Connect"

Result:
An error dialog without a title appears, saying:
Can't display location "smb://10.1.2.3/share1/"
The specified location is not mounted

Running the following in a command line works fine:
$ smbclient  //10.1.2.3/share1 -U FOO\\xerces8
Password: *****

It connects and can access the remote files.

I can reproduce this on my home system and also under vmware at my workplace.
