I have this same issue. When i come back from a suspend or hibernation gaim is obviously not connected anymore because my wireless card has been turned off for some time. might it be best if when your wireless card is turned off or connection reset that gaim would auto drop your connection and ask you to relogin when you regain your connection. When i come back from hibernation and it appears as though gaim is still functioning it is confusing to users because they think everything is ok. -- GAIM hangs when closing it after network connection dropped https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32668
