Hi! I had the same problem after an update in 8.04 LTS too. I found
that there is some problems when I ran Rhythmbox with the gstreamer-
pulseaudio related packages. I had to remove these packages (including
the ubuntu-desktop package) with Synaptic and the bug was fixed. I am
running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS on a F700 Compaq AMD64x2 Laptop.
