In Ubuntu Hardy, if you insert a removable drive (like a USB flash
drive) it shows up as an icon on the desktop.  However, it does not
appear in the $HOME/Desktop directory.  This inconsistency can cause new
users confusion.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Insert USB thumb-drive.  Note that volume is mounted and icon appears on 
Desktop.
2) Create a new document in gedit and choose save.
3) Navigate to "Desktop".
4) No folder for the thumb-drive can be found (yes, it appears to the left in 
the places menu but new users can miss this as they expect it to be on the 
desktop where they saw it earlier).
