Short version:
If there is no sound server started, and I attempt to play a song,
Rhythmbox freezes. Starting the sound server manually afterward does
not help, and I have to force-quit Rhythmbox and reopen.

Long version:
PulseAudio rocks, and I prefer it when applications play nicely. I
therefore don't use ESD (who needs system sounds, since that what seems
to start the ESD server automatically on startup?) However I do have
some applications still that want direct access to certain devices
(notably Twinkle), so I need to manually start and stop PulseAudio. But
I forget to hit Alt+F2 and run it sometimes when I boot the machine, and
then Rhythmbox just freezes when I try to play media files.
Shouldn't the behavior be "Whoops! Unable to find a sound server. Do
you need to give your sound-server a nudge or set your Ubuntu
preferences properly?" (or something user-friendly message) instead of
just freezing?
I also suspect it *may* be a timeout issue, but I've never waited long
enough to test for that since I want to listen when I want to listen!
