Thanks for the super quick response.
Attached are 2 archive files:
The 1st is odt and doc files and their respective exported PDFs made with Hardy
Heron.
The 2nd is odt and doc files and their respective exported PDFs made
with Gutsy Gibbon.
Apostrophes seem to be present on Gutsy/Open 2.3 created files - they
weren't earlier today. But inverted commas are missing on both odt and
docs created on Gutsy Gibbon/Open 2.3
It seems the Hardy Heron/Open Office 2.4 created files work ok -
unfortunately other things on Hardy don't work for me such as my Sony
mp3 player: a bug which no-one can fix..... :o(

Thanks taking the time to report this problem and helping to make Ubuntu
better.
I could not reproduce this problem on Hardy. Could you please provide a
.odt file with the offending characters in it that we can try to
reproduce it. Please also state what localisation you use. It would also
help us, if you could try this on the hardy live-CD if you have there
the same problem.
