When pressing power button on laptop, Exit options show (Log out,
Shutdown, Restart, etc.) but window is not focused so using keyboard
arrow keys or hotkeys (alt-s to shutdown) do not work. If no programs
are open, there is no problem when using the System menu and selecting
Quit. If other programs are open though, using the power button or the
system menu will open the Exit window, but it will be opened in the
background.
This has only recently started to happen withing the last week and in
the past I have had no problems.
Steps to reproduce using power button:
1. Start with no windows open and just desktop.
2. Press power button on laptop and Exit options will show in center of
screen.
3. Use arrow keys to attempt to select any of the options (shutdown for
example.)
4. Note how key events are sent to the desktop and it only changes the
selected item on the desktop and not the Exit window.
Steps to reproduce using System menu:
1. Start one or more programs.
2. Click System menu and select Quit and Exit options will show in
center of screen.
3. Use arrow keys to attempt to select any of the options (shutdown for
example.)
4. Note how key events are sent to the opened program and not the Exit
window.
The obvious workaround for this is to use mouse and click a couple extra times,
however the behavior is still not what a user should expect. Additionally, for
laptop users such as myself, using the keyboard is more common since the
touchpad is more difficult to use and a normal mouse.
System:
Dell Latitude D620
Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop (with all updates as of this posting)
