Thank you for your feedback. I'm assigning this to gnome-control-center,
as I think that it is the gnome-appearance-properties capplet which
needs updating to take in to account the changes in gnome-session.

Steps to reproduce:
1. right click desktop -> Change desktop background -> Visual Effects -> Extra
2. Compiz Fusion is now activated
3. reboot
4. Compiz Fusion is no longer activated because it was not added to Sessions

+ GConf keys to change the default window manager. Temporary workaround is

/desktop/gnome/session/required-components/windowmanager compiz
+ gconftool-2 --set --type=list --list-type=string
/desktop/gnome/session/default-session
[gnome-settings-daemon,compiz,gnome-panel,nautilus]
