You have been subscribed to a public bug:
If I click on the Computer Icon, it opens as expected.
If I click on the trash Icon, it also opens as expected.
If I click on my home folder icon, all the icons disappear from the desktop,
the cpu usage goes up to close to 100%, and right clicking on the desktop
doesn't work.
The user log has a lot of these errors in it:

This bug is 100% repeatable.
I have all the updates (Intrepid) as of 1:00PM HST, Aug 02, 2008.
My Macbook Pro, with the exact same update level, although not the same
apps or data, does not have this problem.
