In Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, there is no timezone listing for Canberra,
Australia. This requires selection of either the Sydney or Melbourne
timezones. Although Canberra is nominally in the same Australian
Eastern timezone as Sydney and Melbourne, it is located in a separate
territory (Australian Capital Territory) with its own legal
jurisdiction, and occasionally has different start and end dates for
daylight saving. It should be listed as a distinct timezone location.
Canberra is the national capital of Australia, with a population of ~
350,000 people, was one of the original development centres for Linux
(Samba), and has a large population of Linux users. By comparison, some
of the Australian locations listed have populations of less than 100
people, and very few Linux users (eg Eucla).
For the record, the Australian capital cities are:
Canberra (national capital)
Sydney (state capital, New South Wales)
Melbourne (state capital, Victoria)
Brisbane (state capital, Queensland)
Adelaide (state capital, South Australia)
Hobart (state capital, Tasmania)
Perth (state capital, Western Australia)
Darwin (territory capital, Northern Territory)
