You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm finding it impossible to get ubuntu(7.10) to load up MP3s or WAVs in
Rhythmbox.

Steps taken to associate MP3 and WAV with Rhythmbox: right click on
MP3(or WAV), click on Properties, click on the Open With tab, click on
the command box and type in Rhythmbox(for some reason it doesn't appear
in the application's list, whereas Media Player and Serpentine, do ?_?),
click OK.

After adding that, by either double clicking(or right clicking and
selecting Rhythmbox Media Player) it loads up Rhythmbox, however, the
song hasn't been added, it doesn't appear anywhere in the GUI, or
provoke a response when clicking the Play button.

another "bug" semi-related to this problem;

Ubuntu doesn't seem to use the user's preferred applications settings when
accessing a file through a (Windows) shared folder.
After setting up MP3s and WAV audio files to open by default in Rhythmbox, MP3s
and WAVs should simply load up in Rhythmbox by either double clicking or
rightclick/openwithRhythmbox, unfortunately that's not the case, both the MP3s
and WAVs open(and play instantly) in Totem Media Player, completely ignoring
the fact that I want them to be opened in Rhythmbox :(

Additional information;
OS: Windows XP SP2 running VMware Workstation ACE Edition Version 6.0.0
build-45731
Rhythmbox version: 0.11.2

hopefully this information is helpful :-)
