You have been subscribed to a public bug:
With a fresh install of gutsy 64bit and restricted driver installed (for
nvidia in my case), new windows open up at the top left of the screen
with the top and part of the left side totally off screen. You have to
use alt+click to grab and move the window. If you place the window in a
new location and then close it, it will open up again off screen.
Positions are somewhat different for various apps but consistently off
screen. I noticed this on the release candidate too.
