Hello,
I browse my samba network (System>Network) to my Linux samba server, I
can see shares.
When I right click a share, I have a "Mount" option. Using that option,
the share opens up like a mounted volume would: nice.
But what a surprise: the share isn't really mounted! Nautilus is still
browsing the share! (as I see smb:// in the location bar)
My Ubuntu lied to me, it didn't really mount the share but just created
a sort of shortcut to it!
Side effects: many Linux apps have broken/no access to smb://, making
that feature useless. Even making Ubuntu unusable in a corporate
environment, like a web agency where all work is centralized on a
server.
So:
- change the context menu option to "Add to favorites" or similar
or
- really mount the share using CIFS
