Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gconf-editor

The default brightness level at start up is very low and it is always
necessary to adjust by fn+brightness key. I have tried the following
(from Forum link) but it has no effect.

ech0 4>/sys/class/backlight/acer_acpi/brightness

The folloing also has no effect

echo 4>/proc/acpi/acer/brightness

The Ubuntu 8.04 system is up to date.
