I'm experiencing a lot of apparently random crashes (i mean 2-3 times a
day) with a complete hanging of the machine. There 3 type of crash:
- During the normal usage of the machine, like browsing, listening music, just
opening the "application" menu and things like that, everythinh hangs exept for
the mouse. Cliking on the shut down button is futile.
Trying to enter in a console with CTRL+ALT+F1-6 is futile too because it hangs
at login. After the insertion of the password sometimes nothing happens and
other times it gave a lot of messages and then it hangs definitly. Only fisical
reboot it's possible
- At boot, after login (1 time it crashed at login too), it appears an error
windows that says that the "name of an applet of gnome" (last time is has been
volume control for example) closed for some problem. You have to chose if you
want to reload the applet or continue without reloading it.
The 2 choises give tha same result. Everything hangs as above.
- Sometimes (maybe 40-50% ot the times) after a crash like the two above, and
so, after a physical reboot, the machine hangs at startup with a message like
"Kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init" (i boot in recovery mode
after crashes so i can read all these messages). So i'm obliged to reset my
machine newly and sometime 3-4 resets are needed to start the machine without
this message!
Finally, i don't know if it's important, after these crashes, are founded
errors on partition like orphan inode and journal is recouvered (sometime a
manual fsck is needed to fix the filesystem)
Trying to read the kern.log i've found same errors ( i suppose they are the
same text lines i see when the machine crashes..). I attach the whole kern.log;
the following are some example of the errors inside the kern.log:
trashapplet[6057]: segfault at d84e9194 eip b713f6c4 esp bfdd6420 error 7
gdm[5708]: segfault at 7e8295e4 eip 0806f004 esp bf94f0fc error 6
kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.24/mm/rmap.c:631!
BUG: scheduling while atomic: gdm/5708/0x00000001
gnome-power-man[6031]: segfault at b72e820e eip b73306f6 esp bfbc1490 error 7
gvfsd-burn[6064]: segfault at bef78adb eip b7e5d399 esp bfe29d90 error 4
gvfsd-trash[6069]: segfault at be16ccab eip b7e43399 esp bfc9a4e0 error 4
and many others...
Notice:
on my machine memtest is ok, temperatures of cpu and hds are ok, there are no
physical problem on the disk(s) (no badblocks).
