This bug report is much too confusing and attempts to request assistance on
multiple issues.
Here's the breakdown:
1) The major gripe with surround sound is resolved by using plug:surround51
(_not_ surround51) as the virtual alsa device.
2) Audio apps blocking on busy /dev/dsp or virtual alsa devices due to a "long
idle timeout for esd" has already been resolved; that's bug #34818.
Neither of these bugs have anything to do with gst*, so I'm reassigning to
alsa-lib and closing the bug, since a correct solution for [1] was in place
prior to the bug report. [2] has been worked around already.
