I'm using Ubuntu hardy and I did full update (stable only). I have same problem. But not exactly.
I can copy files from my samba server to local but not directory(folder). When I copy directory from samba server, error dialog appeared and detail message just say "is a directory". After that 0 byte file created to target location with same name of the directory. Copying directory from samba to "~/.gvfs" also fails with same error dialog.
