There is another glitch connected to the above. If I create a Search folder and choose "All local and active remote folders" and search for a term in the message body, the mail in the Sent folder is not found. If I select "Specific folders" and choose the Sent folder, the mail is found. If I then edit the search folder properties again and switch back to "All local and active remote folders", the mail is still found!
