I don't think it's a gnome-control-center problem, I added this to
xorg.conf :

Identifier "Synaptics Touchpad"
Driver "synaptics"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
Option "HorizScrollDelta" "0"
Option "MaxTapTime" "0"
Option "SHMConfig" "true"
EndSection
and synclient can't configure it
$ synclient touchpadOff=1
Can't access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled?
A kernel problem?
