Leaving a window for many of the games such as mahjongg and sudoku keeps the 
ubuntu from entering an Idle state which prevents going to sleep or hibernating.

Senario:  wife plays a late night game of mahjongg once the game is over
she closes the laptop lid thinking it will go to sleep, she left the
empty mahjongg window open.  Computer never goes to sleep and you find
the laptop computer running very hot the next morning.
