Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager
When I first boot the machine, the screen stays at normal brightness for
as long as I leave it at the gdm prompt. Once I log in, the brightness
icon has a little red dot in the center and the gnome-power-manager icon
is not present. Approximately 5 seconds later, the screen begins to dim
until it is completely black. If, while it is fading to black, I try to
increase the brightness, it flashes brighter and then continues the fade
as if nothing had happened. What I mean by that is the time from login
brightness until total black is the same even if I press the brightness
increase button numerous times. Once it has stabilized at black, I can
increase the brightness and the brightness up/down functions normally.
Suspend/resume has no effect.
If I kill and restart gnome-power-manager, the fade-to-black recurs.
I am attaching the output from gnome-power-manager --verbose. Before the fade
begins, the last line of output I see is at 20:34:33, then the 20:35:06 is
printed as the display begins to fade. I think it may have _SOMETHING_ to do
with the FN:gpm_backlight_brightness_evaluate_and_set,456
- emitting brightness-changed : 0
message.
