Binary package hint: gnome-panel
With default positioning, at the top of the screen, the Application menu
etc. cascade down, over the desktop. This is good.
If the menus are moved to the bottom panel, then sub-menus can obscure
the panel, preventing the user from dragging a launcher from the menu to
the panel.
The sub-menu could be positioned, so that it doesn't obscure the panel,
regardless which screen edge it is against.
