Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager
replacing the battery on a T40 thinkpad causes the battery applet to
disappear. If I add the battery monitor applet I get a different
program, with different options and different icon.
Restarting the machine restores the old battery indicator (and of course
the different, added one).
