Public bug reported:
My Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 digital camera is not recognized when plugged
into a Dell Dimension 4600 running Ubuntu 8.10. This issue seems to come
and go, the camera also had issues with the previous distribution
(8.04), then it was working, then following the recent upgrade it is not
working again. Frustrating!
When it did work, the camera would cause a 'camera recognized' dialog to
open. Now, nothing happens, although the system knows (at some level)
the camera is connected:
$ lsusb
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 04da:2372 Panasonic (Matsushita) Lumix DMC-FZ10 Camera
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Note that the camera type appears to be wrong (it's not a Lumix DMC-
FZ10).
Also, the camera (which displays an information screen when it is
connected via USB to the PC) periodically shows it is being accessed,
but the PC doesn't pop up any dialogs or file browsers or acknowledge
the camera. F-Spot reports 'No Cameras Detected.'
FYI a Lexar USB stick plugged into the same USB port is recognized and
automatically opens a file browser. Here what lsusb shows in that case:
~$ lsusb
